Erlangga Publisher Contributes the Internet Connection, Learning Tools, and Instructors to DBE 2 Schools in Sipoholon Cluster
– Abdi R. Tarigan, North Sumatra DBE 2 Communications Coordinator

DBE 2 schools in Sipoholon Cluster gain support not only from the local government, but also from the private sector. PT Erlangga, one of book publishers, holds cooperation with North Sumatra DBE 2 in Sipoholon District by contributing active learning tools.
The cooperation between DBE 2 and Erlangga was initiated after DBE 2 Education Program Manager, Maskur held communication with S. Balen, the Curriculum Research and Development Division of the National Education Department, who also works as Erlangga consultant. The idea to improve schools in Sipoholon gained support from Erlangga Publisher because the owner, Gunawan Hutahuruk is from Sipoholon. The plan was then followed up by North Sumatra DBE 2 in coordination with Sipoholon MTT.

The Erlangga Publisher agreed to support three DBE 2 schools as model schools. To decide which schools should receive the contribution, ten DBE 2 schools in the cluster held discussions to reach a consensus. Finally, they agreed that SDN 176331 Lumbansoit, SDN 173132 and SDN 173146 will get the support.
“Apart from the consensus reached by those 10 schools, the Erlangga owner also went to one of those 3 schools; so he wants to do marsiputure hutanabe (developing the place of birth/childhood) in education field,” said the Principal of SDN 176331 Lumbansoit, N. Situmeang.

Besides, to support the active learning implementation, Erlangga will send instructors and facilitators for the teachers in those schools.
On 23 July 2009, the representative of Erlangga Publisher, Gomgom Hutahuruk officially gave the contribution for those three DBE 2 schools in SD 176331 Lumbansoit. After giving the learning tools, Erlangga Publisher also provided three instructors and facilitators for PAKEM (Active, Creative, Effective, and Fun Learning); they previously worked for Save the Children and experienced in conducting School-based Management Program (MBS) in Maluku. Their responsibility is to conduct companioning for 6 months.
“The PAKEM system and implementation are quite similar to MBS and DBE 2 PAKEM program. So, when accompanying the teachers, we can be in cooperation and coordination with DBE 2 MTTs,’ said Lia and Kartini.” (ART)
